Who NRAI Is
National Registered Agents, Inc. (NRAI) is a commercial registered agent. Businesses hire it to receive lawsuits, subpoenas, garnishments and official state mail on their behalf.
NRAI is a Wolters Kluwer company. So is C T Corporation System. The two share a parent and, in Florida, share a registered office address.
They are still separate legal entities. A summons for a company whose agent is NRAI has to go to NRAI, and the return of service has to say NRAI. An affidavit naming CT for an NRAI client gives the defense an easy argument for defective service.
You may see the name written incorrectly online, including "National Registered Agents, Inc. (NRAI)" The registered agent name on Florida filings is National Registered Agents, Inc. Use the name exactly as Sunbiz shows it.

5 Steps to Serve NRAI in Florida
The process is the same for a summons and complaint, a subpoena to a non-party company or a writ of garnishment.
1. Pull the Sunbiz record
Search the entity on Sunbiz. Confirm the exact legal name, that the entity is active, and that NRAI is still the registered agent.
If another agent is listed, NRAI is the wrong target. If the entity is inactive or the agent resigned, the statute moves you to officers, managers or other routes.
2. Match the name on the papers
The defendant's name on the summons should match Sunbiz exactly, including "Inc.," "LLC" or "Corp." A mismatch is a reason for the agent to decline and for the defendant to contest service.
3. Prepare one full set per entity
Bring the issued summons, subpoena or writ, plus the complaint and every required exhibit. Each defendant needs its own set. Three affiliated companies with NRAI as agent means three sets and three acceptances.
4. Deliver during business hours
A sheriff or a certified or appointed process server hands the papers to the person authorized to accept for NRAI. A party to the case can't serve them.
Because §48.091 requires the office to be open at least 10 a.m. to noon on weekdays, plan the serve for a weekday during business hours.
5. File a complete return of service
Under §48.21, the return should show when the papers came to hand, the date and time of service, the manner of service, and the name and capacity of the person who accepted for the agent. It also carries the server's identification number.
Name National Registered Agents, Inc. as the registered agent served. That one line prevents most later disputes about which agent received the papers.
When the Papers Are Declined
A registered agent declines papers for predictable reasons. The entity may have moved to a different agent. The name may not match. The agent may have resigned, or the company may have been dissolved.

The new answer might be CT Corporation at the same address, CSC in Tallahassee, Corporate Creations Network in North Palm Beach, or an officer or manager who now must be served directly. Our guide to serving registered agents in Florida lays out each fallback.
Don't mail the summons as a workaround. In a Florida state case, mailing is not service of original process. Rule 1.070(i) allows a mailed request to waive service, but the defendant can say no.
Subpoenas, Garnishments and Other Papers for NRAI Clients
Not every serve on NRAI starts a lawsuit. Much of the work is discovery and collection, and each type has its own wrinkle.
Subpoenas to non-party companies. A records subpoena to a bank, carrier or retailer is often served on its registered agent. Build in time before the production date, and serve a separate subpoena for each entity. See subpoena service in Florida.

Common mistakes on NRAI Florida serves
- Using a Sunbiz printout from months ago instead of checking the day you send the job.
- Naming CT Corporation on the return when the agent of record is NRAI.
- Sending one set of papers for several related defendants.
- Leaving off exhibits the complaint references.
- Mailing the summons and treating a delivery receipt as proof of service.
Each of these is easy to avoid with a same-day record check and a server who knows the office.
The Legal Basis for Serving NRAI
Florida law sends you to the registered agent first. For corporations, §48.081, Florida Statutes provides for service on the registered agent.
For LLCs and partnerships, §48.062 does the same before members or managers can be served. §48.091 requires corporations to designate a registered agent and keep the registered office open during the statutory hours.
When NRAI is the designated agent, delivery at its Plantation office is the statutory front door for a Florida state case. Federal Rule 4(h) also allows service on a company through an agent authorized to receive process.
